      Welcome to our Site

The Mountain Spruce Community Centre Society (MSCCS) has occupied a Crown leasehold just south of the Burgess and Higgins Lake intersection since Sept 5, 2001.  This took our founders two years of  hard work to obtain.

MSCCS represents the Four Communities of Hathaway, Sulphurous, Deka and Higgins Lakes.  Block A on the map has been surveyed as the building site for a Community Centre. The lower portion is designated as a semi-wilderness recreation area or Park. The total leasehold occupies some 4. 517 HA (11 acres more or less).

Work parties are organized during our short summer seasons in order to continue the building and maintenance of the Park. On the reverse side of the community events sign is an interpretive map of the Park.  A substantial plank and pole bridge provides safe access to a perimeter hiking trail and in winter a groomed X country ski and ski-skating trail.  A rail-fenced day picnic area provides a pleasant place for family gatherings.  We recently designed and built a viewing platform overlooking a large beaver pond which we have named Heron Lake.  This pond, fed by the headwater streams of Sulphurous and Deka Lakes has become the highlight of a walk in the park and from the viewpoint many species can be spotted (bring binoculars) in spring and fall migration.  With the constant source of fresh water assured wildlife abound in the cat-tailed wetlands and park visitors from many lands go home to relive their experience with family and friends.  Several weddings have been performed for foreign visitors from this viewpoint making it legendary in memory.

MSCCS continues to welcome those who enjoy the outdoor experience.  Please check our work schedule and come join us when you can or better still become an active member. We need those who wish to become Directors and supporters of this unique Society.
